A Look Back at 2020
I share my thoughts on the past year and what it meant to me.
Well, this crazy year is finally coming to a close. 2020 is definitely a year to go down in the history books as being full of surprises and challenging times. Even though this has been a year of turmoil and hardship, it has also been a year of tremendous blessings for me. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel real to be able to say that, but it’s true.
Maybe this will be our year.
For years, James and I have said, Maybe this will be our year. Just as everybody does, we’ve had some hard times. Each year, we’d dream, make goals, and work hard to turn things around. We’ve just never felt we could reach the place we wanted to be in life.
Not to say life has been horrible or that we’ve been through any devastating crisis in the last few years. For the most part, life has been pretty good. We have definitely had our share of hard times and disappointing events, but we’ve been good. We’ve fought through it all together, and we’ve come out of each year doing okay.
But this year. This year has been different.
Looking back on 2020, this year has been great for us! Yes, there have been some difficult times because of this stupid virus. Yes, there have been hard things that have happened because our world is different this year. Yet we have also experienced some major stuff this year that has been great for us.
One of the biggest, of course, was being able to sell our house and take off on our decade-long dream of traveling full-time!
Dreams are coming true.
We’ve been on the road for a little over 5 months now. Sometimes I still find myself sitting and thinking about this in awe, and I can’t believe it’s real. We had dreamed about this for so long, and it’s been everything we hoped and dreamed for!
We’ve visited some incredible places, seen beautiful sights, and made some great memories already! Our journey so far has taken us over 15,000 miles. We’ve been to the northern border of the United States in Minnesota, to the beaches of San Diego, to the Mojave Desert, and many things in between. We’ve traveled to nine National Parks, a Great Lake, some state parks, and many other cool places. One really great thing is seeing many friends along the way and making new friends too!
Business is excellent, too.
As I look back on 2020, I’m deeply thankful for the success of my Scentsy business. If I’m being candid, when we started preparing to sell everything and hit the road, I was a little worried about how it would affect things.
I knew I could run the business from anywhere as long as I had internet, but after over 9 years in business, I’d developed a routine for how I ran it. I had specific systems in place, and I held annual events. All of that would have to change.
The results have been phenomenal. Not only has my business survived, but it has also THRIVED! I’ve had the best year ever, with the last quarter being exceptional.
To give you a glimpse of how different 2020 was for me, I set a monthly sales goal to work toward a variety of things (paycheck, incentives, awards, etc.). I typically hit my sales goal and often exceed it. Over the last 9 years, I’ve even doubled my typical goal three times. I was shocked each time it happened and so excited about it!
This year, not only did I do that again, but I did it for four months in a row!! Something I had only done 3 times in the last 9 years, I’ve done 4 months in a ROW this quarter. It almost brings me to tears to share that because I’m so incredibly grateful for a business that not only makes me a great paycheck, but also allows me to be completely flexible in how I run my business and do it from literally anywhere! What a blessing that is! (Income disclosure)
So grateful for where we are right now.
We’ve had many other blessings this year, and I won’t go into all of them, but for the first time in a long time, I feel like life is precisely where I want it to be.
Of course, there are always challenges and difficulties along the way - nothing is perfect. But the challenges we face today are nothing compared to those we’ve faced and finally overcome. So as I take a look back at 2020, I’m just incredibly grateful for all the blessings I’ve been given.
Now to see what 2021 brings us!
