Visiting Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego
As we were driving to Point Loma we saw this cemetery and just couldn’t get over the beauty of it.
This was something we hadn’t planned as we mapped out everything we wanted to do in San Diego. We just got lucky and happened upon it.
We were headed toward the Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma to check that out, and as we were driving there, we saw this cemetery. Of course, we stopped to check it out. You guys who know James know how he’s all about veterans and military things!
James and I walked around the cemetery for a little while, and I couldn’t get over its beauty. It’s so well-maintained and cared for. The grounds are just gorgeous. As you walk around the cemetery, you get beautiful views of Coronado Island and, of course, beautiful views of the ocean as well.
There are so many veterans buried here, mostly those who were older and not in the prime of their lives — which is sad — but it’s a different feeling than visiting military cemeteries like Margraten, where most of the men who died were in their early teens. Those cemetery visits were heartbreaking. Still, it’s an honor to know all these men and women served to make our country what it is.
If you’re in the San Diego/Point Loma area, I definitely recommend taking the time to visit this beautiful place and pay your respects to those who served.
