There are campgrounds where letting your dog run off leash is just fine, as long as you do so responsibly. No one wants to be stuck in a car all day just to be stuck at the end of a leash. We need to consider what the dog needs too.
Appreciate your input! I do have to disagree though. Unless it's in a dog run or an area that's fenced off, dogs should be leashed. It's just too dangerous to let them loose - some great examples why are given below. As James said, we do love dogs but they're still animals and need to be treated as such.
We love dogs, and they certainly need to run, but I don't agree with letting them run wild unless it's in a dog park or designated area. Mostly because I've seen dogs get into fights with other dogs, and owners getting in the middle of it all, which is dangerous, not to mention sometimes even friendly dogs can become aggressive.
Hopefully, more campgrounds and RV parks will build dog runs to make this easier and safer for all!
Weβre old and we travel with 5 cats. I canβt tell you how many times I have had to pick one of my cats up, who is on a harness and a leash, to protect him from a loose dog in a campground. The loose dog then jumps up on me to either get the cat or greet the cat, neither of which me or my cat find charming or friendly. Weβve had to resort to keeping them inside or in cages on top of the picnic table. How fair is that? Loose Dogs can and do cause older people to fall, sometimes protecting their cat, often causing harm to them. Dogs need to be controlled, confined or contained when in a campground. If that canβt be done, then boondock somewhere away from a campground, especially a crowded one.
Oh my goodness! I'm sure that's terrifying to have dogs coming at you like that. That's definitely a perfect example of why they should be leashed. I'm so glad you didn't get hurt!! Thanks for sharing your story with us!
Yes, we've seen "good and friendly" dogs become excited or aggressive to the detriment of others involved. Our Jack Russel was once attacked by my sister's Cocker Spaniel, even though she never showed aggression towards other dogs. Both were trained and well-behaved, but animals are animals. π€·ββοΈ
That said, I think every pet owner should keep their pets contained or restrained in public places for our safety.
I would add... Don't steal your neighbor's firewood! I once chased off a couple of would-be thieves from a neighboring campsite while that occupant was out on a hike. I was dumbfounded by the audacity.
I know someone who was camping with their family and one guy kept walking through the middle of their camp. she called him out and he said βwell I guess we will have to settle this western styleβ which took to mean with firearms. He continued to walk through their campground.
There definitely are some crazy assholes out there. The stories Iβve heard or read about females feeling in danger alone are mind boggling. Why does any person feel the need to do these things?
I was just at a campground and someone did the bright lights and music thing until pretty late. The campground host just hid in their trailer. (I get it, most aren't paid but still). Another thing I hate is when there's lots of open sites but they pull in right next to you! Why??
Yeah it's definitely frustrating when the camp hosts don't make people follow the rules. :/ And it is baffling when people don't spread out isn't it! Thanks for weighing in on the list!
That's always frustrating! π‘ I think many campground hosts have their hands tied and have to call local law enforcement, but I do think they have a responsibility to ask someone to adhere to the rules or they will be asked to leave.
YES! I need to be close to someone phenomena. I'm not sure if people are that clueless or are just too scared to sleep alone.
I would add do not take a space right next to someone if the rest of the campground is empty. All good points.
Agreed! That's definitely a great one! Thanks!
Yes, this really annoys me. 30 spots and they want to cuddle me. π€·π»ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ

Many more things I can add one donβt set up your camp at 12 oβclock at night, banging on steaks and poles
Definitely a good one!! ππ»

Dog runs would be awesome at campgrounds for sure!

That still makes me sad to think about that time! Poor Bandit!!

wow! Thatβs crazy!! Thatβs definitely something to NOT do! Thanks for weighing in and adding a tip!
Geez. Yeah, I don't know why people feel entitled and are so dumb at times.
Number 7 got me. Who walks straight through someone elseβs campsite? Happy camping!

wow! That's insane! What in the world is wrong with people?!

Fair enough!
And donβt they know or care that I like to camp naked??? π Thanks!
lol!!!!!!!!!!! I camp the same way!
All of us military people are messed up. And I wouldn't have it any other way!
You're not wrong!

Right?! It's not that hard to walk outside the perimeter of someone's site! lol! Thanks for weighing in on the list!
